Methodology

How arguments are evaluated

An argument stands only on the evidence beneath it.

What an argument needs

Every argument belongs to a topic and should cite the evidence it relies on. Arguments can reply to other arguments in the same topic, building a thread of reasoning.

Review

New arguments start under review. A reviewer then rules the argument valid or invalid. Invalid arguments carry a reason:

  • Invalid evidence: the evidence cited isn't authentic, or doesn't show what the argument claims.
  • Non sequitur: the conclusion of the argument doesn't follow from its evidence.

When an author edits an argument after review, it goes back under review, so every verdict reflects the current text.
